Bingo! In its January issue, the prominent French music magazine Diapason rave-reviews the third instalment of Pieter Wispelwey’s Duo Pilgrimage (a five CD exploration of the complete Schubert and Brahms duos). Since the press had been somewhat diffident about Pieter’s cello appropriation of music for other instruments, we are pleased to read that “the transcription of [Brahms’] Violin Sonata nr. 2 does not suffer from being lowered onto the violoncello, and adapts wonderfully well to the autumnal sonorities of Wispelwey’s instrument”.
